Sablayan| The underwater Paradise of APO Reef

Sablayan, not just known as the biggest municipality in the Philippines, but also a home of the famous  APO Reef Natural Park and the longest Island to Island Zipline in the World.  Apo Reef is one of the four-season ingredients that will complete your unforgettable leisure experience in the province of Occidental Mindoro. This is a perfect place for diving and snorkeling while enjoying your time with shark encounter and take a selfie with the rays.

Thanks to the great improvement of Mindoro’s infrastructure, especially in access to transportation. Traveling through the province to showcase the unique destination which is now more accessible and proud to say, no doubt, that the Island of Mindoro will be the next haven of Philippine Tourism.

Apo Reef is the second contagious coral reef in the world next to the great barrier reef of Australia. Located in the middle of the South China Sea, it covers 34 square kilometers connecting an atoll-like coral separated by a deep water channel.

Home of 350 marine species and  480 coral species, the platitudes were seen underwater is truly a haven. Bristle with marine life and quantity of fish patrolling in the depth seems like having a parade along with the yellowfin tuna and Barracudas, while sharks flirting with the thickness of mackerel scad. Groups of aquarium fish and rays strolling around at a perfect set of corals to get something to eat. 

Aside from diving and snorkeling, visitors can also enjoy the Island’s beautiful white sand that gives a remarkable scene and ocean view which reflects at sunset, the sea breeze and migrated bird chirp.  Staying overnight in the tent while sleeping in the middle of the ocean will definitely give you a memorable moment that feels like owning an Island.

On the next day, witness the sunrise at the beachfront, then, head up to the lighthouse top to get the best view of the whole Island, and; spend time boating in the lagoon surrounded by mangroves. 

APO reef is about a two to three-hour boat ride from the mainland of Sablayan.  Connect with Sablayan Tourism Office; they are very open in setting up a schedule for a group (minimum of 10) diving and snorkeling including types of equipment and boat rental.  The best month to explore this Island in summer from March up to May.

Meanwhile, the rough month during the rainy season from July to December. You can book your stay and dive trip at Pandan Island Resort  (Scuba Diving Center).  

Sablayan is in between San Jose (closest Airport) and Abran De Ilog (land travel gateway). Book your Airline flight from Manila, Clark bound for San Jose. From there, a short ride going the Bus Terminal then catch up a schedule bound for Mamburao or Abra De Ilog (83-kilometer ride or about a two-hour commuter ride).

Get off to Sablayan  Integrated Terminal. Make sure that your booking was properly coordinated by a registered Travel agency or you may directly coordinate with the Sablayan Tourism Office, they are very much willing to help.

Land Trip
Several Bus Operators (RORO Bus, CERES) have a regular Trip schedule bound for San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.Terminal available in Alabang, Pasay, Sampaloc, and Cubao. Fare ranging P800 – P1, 000 pesos for a single ride, including ferry ticket. Get off to Sablayan  Integrated Terminal
